Mouzon Leroux L'Ascendant Disgorgement 2021 – Grand Cru Champagne in Solera from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Mouzon Leroux L'Ascendant is a Grand Cru Champagne with dynamic structure and vertical vision, produced in Verzy, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. It is the fruit of a solera cuvée started in 2014, fed every year with new fractions of the «L'Atavique» cuvée, emblem of the house style.
The 2021 disgorgement contains an assemblage of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, of which 50% harvest 2019 and 50% perpetual reserve from vintages 2014–2018. The grapes come from Grand Cru vineyards cultivated in certified biodynamics. Spontaneous fermentation, vinification in barrique and no dosage: L'Ascendant is a pure, alive and continuously evolving Brut Nature.
After disgorgement, the wine rests on average 6 months in cellar, to refine balance and harmony. The olfactory profile is deep and layered, with hints of candied citrus, hazelnut, orange zest, medicinal herbs and chalky minerality. On the palate it is tensive, material, vibrant, with a long, saline and sculpted finish.
A wine of reflection and depth, which tells the memory of past harvests with a modern and incisive sip.
