Eric Taillet – Des Grillons aux Clos Extra Brut – Meunier Between Two Terroirs
Des Grillons aux Clos is the parcel cuvée that marks a new creative phase for Eric Taillet, winemaker from Baslieux-sous-Châtillon and absolute reference figure for Pinot Meunier in the Vallée de la Marne. This Champagne is born from the selection of 12 historic vineyards located between the lieux-dits Les Grillons (Montigny) and Les Clos (Baslieux), on clay and limestone soils that give the wine complexity, energy and a clear territorial signature.
Made with 100% Meunier from vines over 40 years old, it does not undergo malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness and precision. Vinification takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in wood, with aging on lees between 24 and 36 months. The dosage is Extra Brut (1.3 g/l). The cuvée is perpetual, started in 2011, with base harvest 2017 (70%) and vins de réserve from 9 vintages. Disgorgement occurs in small batches, and the liqueur is not standardized but produced in-house from Millésimé 2004.
In the glass it presents brilliant, golden, with fine and creamy perlage. The nose opens on fresh tropical fruits, dark citrus, aromatic herbs, panettone crumb, sweet spices and toasted notes. On the palate it is broad, solid, with incisive minerality that guides the sip, accompanied by returns of peach, coffee powder and a savory, balsamic finish. A fascinating Champagne, uniting richness and drinkability, evolving with elegance over time.
